~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you for purchasing PATCHMAN MUSIC Pro Patches Volume 1 for the Korg M1. This unique bank of 100 Programs and 100 Combinations was specifically designed to be used with a wind controller such as the Yamaha WX5, WX7, WX11, WindJamm'r, MIDI EVI, Akai EVI, EWI, or Synthophone. Keyboardists can also enjoy these sounds by using a BC1, BC2, or BC3 breath controller plugged directly into a keyboard equipped with a breath controller input or into a device such as the Midi Solutions Breath Controller Box (www.midisolutions.com) or an Anatek Wind Machine (out of production). The names of all of these wind controller Programs and Combinations begin with a "@" for easy identification.
Before you begin you might want to print out these instructions for easier access while you are going through the following steps.
==============================================
Prepare The M1/r To Receive The New Sounds
==============================================
Before you can transmit these new sounds to the M1/r you need to prepare it to receive system exclusive data. To do this...
On the M1/r, set the Global Midi Channel to 1...
1.) Push "GLOBAL"
2.) Push "PAGE+" 10 times until the display reads "MIDI GLOBAL"
3.) Push the "C" button
4.) Push the "UP" or "DOWN" button until the display reads "CH= 1"
Next, make sure Sysex reception is Enabled for both Programs and Combis...
1.) Push "GLOBAL"
2.) Push "PAGE+" once until the display reads "MIDI FILTERING"
3.) Push the "H" button
4.) Push the "UP" button until the display reads "EXCL:ENA"
Next, make sure Aftertouch reception is enabled...
1.) Push the "C" button
2.) Push the "UP" button until the display reads "AFTT:ENA"
Next, make sure Control Change reception is enabled...
1.) Push the "F" button
2.) Push the "UP" button until the display reads "CNTL:ENA"
Next, turn off PROGRAM MEMORY PROTECT...
1.) Push "PAGE+" once. The display should read "PROGRAM MEMORY PROTECT"
2.) Push the "C" button
3.) Push the "DOWN" button until the display reads "Internal:OFF"
Next, turn off COMBINATION MEMORY PROTECT...
1.) Push "PAGE+" once again. The display should read "COMBINATION MEMORY PROTECT"
2.) Push the "C" button
3.) Push the "DOWN" button until the display reads "Internal:OFF"
Set MEMORY ALLOCATION to (100PROG/100COMBI/440SEQ)...
1.) Push "PAGE+" 2 times until display reads "Memory Allocation"
2.) Push the "A" button
3.) Push the "DOWN" button until the display reads "(100PROG/100COMBI/440SEQ)"
4.) Push the "G" button twice to execute this change.
Exit the Global page by pushing the "PROG" or "COMBI" button.
 WARNING
=======================================
You may want to save the your current "I" Bank Programs and Combinations because they will be erased once you load this new bank.
=======================================
Using The .SYX File with a PC
=======================================
The .SYX file format is a widely used, standard format for transferring soundbank files. SYX files can be used with a variety of shareware utilities as well as many PC sequencers such as Cakewalk. If you are using Cakewalk simply select "Sysx" under the View menu, select "Load Bank", load in the .SYX file, then select "Send" to send the file. Even the Cakewalk demo is able to transfer .SYX files. A link to several downloadable PC utilities that work with Sysex files is available at:
http://www.patchmanmusic.com/Sysex_Utilities.html
=======================================
Using the Standard MIDIFile (.MID) Format
=======================================
The Standard MIDIfile format consists of a Standard MIDIfile which when played through a MIDI sequencer will load the new sounds into the M1/r. Most sequencers allow you to import or open Standard MIDIfiles. Please consult your sequencer manual if you are not sure how to do this. Once the file has been opened and you have prepared the M1/r, simply "play" the sequence to transmit the sounds into the M1/r. Allow approximately 10 seconds for the full file to transfer.
=======================================
Using The Mac Self Loader Utility
=======================================
To use the Macintosh Self Loader (.SYX) format you will need to use the "Bulk Sysex Utility" application in order to load these sounds into the M1/r. This MIDI application will work with most Macintosh MIDI interfaces. Double click on the "Bulk Sysex Utility" application found on this disk. Push the "Continue" button. Under the MIDI menu, select the appropriate "Port" and "Clock" settings. Select "Bulk sysex" from the MIDI menu. Push the "Open" button. Open the "PMM1V1.SYX" file. Turn on "Slow Transmit" by clicking on the "Slow Transmit" checkbox. Push the "Transmit" button. This file takes approximately 15 seconds to fully transmit. Give it enough time to finish. Quit the "Bulk Sysex Utility" application. M1/r Volume 1 should now be in bank "I" of the M1/r. A link to several other downloadable Mac utilities that work with Sysex files is available at:
http://www.patchmanmusic.com/Sysex_Utilities.html
=======================================
Setting Up Your Wind Controller
=======================================
Since the M1/r is not capable of responding to breath controller data, all of these Programs and Combinations have been programmed to respond to AFTERTOUCH data. Make sure your wind controller is set to transmit AFTERTOUCH data not breath controller data. WX5, WX11, and WindJamm'r users will need to use a mapper (such as Anatek's Pocket Mapper or Wind Machine) to remap breath controller data into aftertouch data. For optimum playing response we recommend not transmitting velocity, breath controller, modulation, or volume data. Velocity parameters have been turned off in these patches anyway. Akai EWI/EVI players please note these sounds are set up such that you should not use the EXT IN on the EWV. Simply use the audio out from the M1/r.
=======================================
If There Are Problems
=======================================
* Make sure the MIDI data is actually being received by the M1.
* Make sure the MIDI data is going out the correct serial port (modem or printer).
* Make sure the M1 has been properly prepared. (See above).
* Make sure you've allowed enough time for the entire transmission to complete.
* If you are hearing the correct notes but very faintly then your wind controller is not transmitting aftertouch data. To correct this please see above.
